With the completion of the 2020 NFL season, we have our final power rankings entering the postseason, with our top contenders being:

  1. New Orleans Saints
  2. Baltimore Ravens
  3. Kansas City Chiefs
  4. Green Bay Packers
  5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Based on our power rankings, there is a group of teams a clear level below the contenders, who will need to catch fire and a little luck to make a serious run at the Super Bowl:

  1. Buffalo Bills
  2. Seattle Seahawks
  3. Indianapolis Colts
  4. Pittsburgh Steelers

The main difference between these teams and the contenders is that contenders are elite on at least one side of the ball - the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs have explosive offenses to compensate for average defenses. The Baltimore Ravens, New Orleans Saints, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have elite defenses to balance out with a top-10 offense.

The Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers are largely held back by their offenses, as both teams have stout defenses. The Buffalo Bills are an interesting team thanks to the big jump Josh Allen has made in his third season at quarterback paired with an elite receiver in Stefon Diggs. While their defense struggled earlier in the season, it is a proven product under Leslie Frazier and has returned to form most recently. Similarly, the Seattle Seahawks, led by Russell Wilson, are always a threat, and their defense has improved immensely in recent weeks.

  1. Tennessee Titans
  2. Los Angeles Rams
  3. Cleveland Browns
  4. Chicago Bears
  5. Washington Football Team

The Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns have two of the worst defenses in the NFL, and cannot reliably win a Super Bowl without having huge turnover luck work in their favor. The Los Angeles Rams would have been much higher up, but uncertainty at quarterback with Jared Goff out has pushed them down significantly. The Chicago Bears and Washington Football Team are both below-average teams led by elite defenses that will have to flip the field for their offenses to have any chance of making a deep playoff run.

Offense Power Rankings

See below for our offense power rankings, led by the Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers, and New Orleans Saints:

Defense Power Rankings

We have the Los Angeles Rams ranked as the clear #1 defense in the NFL. If Jared Goff manages to return from his thumb injury, they very much can be contenders:
